Why do Platini, Rivera and Cruyff thinks that Cannavaro don't deserve the Golden ball award?

The Dutchman also disagreed with the not-so-secret award of the `France Football´ Golden Ball to Fabio Cannavaro. "I respect Cannavaro, but football is more than just defending”, he stressed before highlighting that defenders are apt for the prize: if they’re more complete. “Beckenbauer was an offensive player who played in defense whereas Cannavaro is a stopper: pure and simple.”





According to Johan Cruyff if the prize couldn’t go to a Barcelona player it should be justly awarded to a certain Arsenal man who was in the Catalan club’s orbit this past summer. "If you’re not going to give the Golden Ball to either Eto’o or Ronaldinho – fair enough as one had a poor World Cup and the other didn’t go – give it to Thierry Henry".

Why do Platini, Rivera and Cruyff thinks that Cannavaro don't deserve the Golden ball award?
I think the problem is that most people think that because the award is given by FIFA that its related to WC performance alone and forget that this award takes the entire years form and performance into consideration.





Every one is entitled to their opinions and these great players are only voicing theirs from their perspective, understanding and immense knowledge of the game. It doesn't mean in any capacity that they are being anti Italian or anti Cannavaro. It's purely their own thoughts based on what they have seen over the past year.





Congratulations to whomever wins, they will have deserved it. That includes Cannavaro. If he were not worthy he would not be in contention.
Reply:he doesnt deserve it at all...ok he had a good world cup...but his performances for real madrid and juventus this year were mediocre...not worty of the award...the award should and better go to thierry henry...best player this year...after that its kaka
