Why isn't there the 'golden ball' anymore?

I don't understand why there isn't the 'golden ball' anymore? I think it was much better.

Why isn't there the 'golden ball' anymore?

Reply:Are you talking about the golden goal? cause the golden ball still exists. I think the golden goal is much better than full extra times, very stressful but exciting and with real football till the scorer wins. Why isn't it there any more? maybe because TV rights, or other commercial reasons.
Reply:because it depends on the luck
Reply:I believe you meant GOLDEN GOAL. Golden Ball still exists and it is the award that is given to the MVPin the world cup. In regards to golden goal, actually silver goal is a bit more fare. Brings more flare. In a silver goal match there was a thriller that involved Germany actually. They were down 3-1 to the Brits, and Gerd Muller palyed with a broken foot, despite that tied the game 3-3 and eventually Germany became champions.

I like silver goal better. After someone scores a goal and especially if it is early in extra time you have almost 30 minutes more of a thriller left.

Golden Boot is given to the footballer who has the most amount of goals in the tournament, looks like it may be KLOSE%26gt;
Reply:One answer mentioned that the Golden Ball is given to the best scorer in the tournament, that's not quite correct. The Golden Ball is the award for best player: "The adidas Golden Ball award is presented to the outstanding player at each FIFA World Cup™ finals, with a shortlist drawn up by the FIFA technical committee and the winner voted for by representatives of the media."

The best scorer in the tournament is awarded the Golden Shoe.

They got rid of the Golden Goal because it didn't happen often enough and was considered unfair. And, a game like the 1970 World Cup match between Italy and Germany which had 5 goals in overtime and ended 4-3 for Italy would not be possible anymore.
Reply:because its not fair
Reply:because there is no fair in golden ball,
