i read the fact in the papers

Why do they have to use a golden ball in the finals?
They don't have to.
Reply:I believe that the Golden ball is used to look good because it would look plain boring if it was the same ball over and over again.
Reply:cos jjb had run out
Reply:It's meant to be an extra "reward"

From what I read a while ago, golden balls will be used in the final, then the team that wins the World Cup will use the golden balls for the next 4 years. Only the team that wins the World Cup will be allowed to use them
Reply:for show
Reply:Maybe they're trying to slowly americanize it, pretty soon the final could be called Deathmatch or Thunder-Ball with cheerleaders and sirens over the goals :P
Reply:only in the actual final itself. And the winner will be the only country in the known Universe to play all their international games with a golden ball for 4 years.
Reply:A special ball design is created for every world cup, it is tradition as well as a marketing opportunity.

The ball is designed by adidas (they have held the contract since the 1970's) to be used for the final match. It is the same as the balls used in matches throughout the world cup tournament, except the panels will be coloured in gold.

The idea for this golden ball was inspired by the FIFA Golden Ball trophy given to the best player in the world cup.
Reply:For show. The winning team will be allowed to keep it and play with it in the next 4 years to come.
Reply:So Bechham will be linked to the final(GOLDEN BALLS) as England will be being rained on back home
Reply:For Show and to represent the world cupits self
Reply:With the money footballers make they have golden balls all the time.
