Zidane could lose Golden Ball, You agree or disagree?

http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?...

MILAN, Italy -- FIFA president Sepp Blatter says Zinedine Zidane could be stripped of his Golden Ball award for the best player at the World Cup due to violent conduct.

"The winner of the award is not decided by FIFA, but by an international commission of journalists," Blatter said in Wednesday's La Repubblica. "That said, FIFA's executive committee has the right, and the duty, to intervene when faced with behavior contrary to the ethic of the sport."

Zidane could lose Golden Ball, You agree or disagree?
I agree. The award should go to a great player, someone in control of their behavior. Zidane's actions make him a horrible role model, soccer player, and an even worse team captain. He embarrassed himself, his team and his nation. Taking away this award will show that FIFA and the world will not stand for such violence, and they certainly won't reward it.
Reply:Disagree. Zidane was clearly the best player on any pitch in the tourney. While the headbutt was obviously foul play, Figo did the same against Holland and only got a yellow card- and he hit the other guy in the nose. Zidane was taunted into it, and, while it was a poor choice of action, it shouldn't diminish his legend or what he achieved duing the tournament.
Reply:yeahhhhhhh.... i agree ! it'll b a good punishment 4 him , for his violence

then, the golden ball will goes to Cannavaro!! is it right?
Reply:maybe
Reply:I Completely disagree with that statement, look at Maradona's Hand of god incident where argentina wins over england because of that controversy goal from maradona. Still Maradona crowned for the best player award at that time. My Opinion still Zidane is the best palyer on the WorldCup 2006 because of him france make it to the final.
Reply:agree
Reply:DISAGREE. If he loses the Golden Ball then Italy should give back the World Cup.
Reply:Totally disagree.

Some of the people on this site are more violent in writing than Zidane in acting.

By writing such comments, they show no class and prove the society is invaded by racists.
Reply:I disagree. He was punished enough by not being there for his team whom he brought to the end. He was not nominated for the golden ball for success of his last game, but for success of his great career. So what if he stood up for his family honour to a prick who could not comprehend the greatness of sport? Why are you throwing stones at Zidane? Did Italy win-yes. Did Zidane played very good-yes. Like you all are going around allowing some people to offend your mothers, sisters, fathers, etc?

Some fans of Italy (not Italians in general) might not all be supportive of this, but some of them are fond of their families and mother is sacred in all cultures.
Reply:I agree with you. Because the score was made by journalists and they made the score before Zidane got the red card. That's unfair! And Italy's Cannavaro's and Pirlo's were so close to Zidane's. Just because many of the journalists made the score before that. Still, Zidane's movement disobeyed the morality of sports. Just think about it, C Ronaldo could lose the award because of his bad morality on the football pitch. Why couldn't FIFA not give Zidane the Golden Ball???? As we know, Podolski's didn't get the most vote among his rivals, but he could still get the award. Where's FIFA this time??? I think Zidane didn't deserve to get the Golden Ball. ( Just in my opinion)
Reply:NO! though he did some disgraceful things to contradict his award it's not right to take back what you've already given.

it's a bigger issue for fifa not having the best player for this world cup. so i disagree.
Reply:Zidane should keep the Golden Ball award. If the title is really going to be stripped as a punishment then the world cup won by the Italians should be stripped too. Fair! ( We don't want our children to learn head butting but we also dont want our children to be a foxy person in the future who will do anything including insulting people or cheating all the time just for wanna winning a game ). Red card received by Zidane was something enough to explain the serious consequence of his act. He was already being punished and paid the price. If his Golden Ball award is really going to be stripped, that would tell the children from countries all over the world that Materrazzi and his insulting words are the winners. Our children might learn to insult people as Materrazzi did to Zidane whenever they wanna to win a game or destroy a person's reputation to hope that their opponent will get a red card or honour title being stripped.
Reply:If he keeps the Golden Boot,it will justify his thug like behavior.Take the award back
Reply:Zidane deserves it....i mean deserves to keep it.
Reply:Absolutely not. The golden ball (or boot) is not decided on behaviour but on performance on the field (goals scored, assists) and how vitall he is to the success of his team. I don't think any action should be taken until we find out what the Italian guy said to him. If they take any action towards Zidane, then the Italian player should be suspended for a year and the WC final be replayed.

I quote Sepp Blatter, "behavior contrary to the ethic of the sport," but the guy who elbowed McBride in the nose didn't have any action taken against him while that was clearly "behavior contrary to the ethic of the sport." There has been a whole pleothora of "behavior contrary to the ethic of the sport," this WC but they only choose this to have a fit about?

And I think the guy above me, stradun7, hit the nail on the head.
Reply:Zidane should be stripped of his Golden Ball because of his action.

BUT

Materazzi should be stripped of his goal too, because of his insult.

So, final result will be 1:0 for France. France win.

Maybe should re-play the World Cup Final
Reply:yes i agree

i dont take it form zidane that he is a great player, but if he wants awards he should at least be a role model for the million of kids who watched him do that. there ar other players who are equally deserving of that award.
Reply:Yes, I agree, he should get the golden bald head award, not the golden ball award :-) ...c'mon, that was one seriously well placed head butt ...if he had only done it on the ball ....hmm, the possibilities :-P
Reply:yay! i didnt know they could do that. i really hope they do because cannavaro deserved it wayyy more and i bet he wouldve won if all the voting had been done after the match. i dont understand why they even allow voting before all the matches have been played anyway. isnt that a smarter thing to do?
Reply:agree
Reply:I agree with birgit, If they make him give up his Golden Ball Award, then the Italians should make it up with the frickin' world cup. 20 Something years for nothing because of some punk *** kid cussing him out, I don't agree.
Reply:i AGREE 100%...**** ZIDANE
Reply:I disagree.

He lost his temper, these things happen. Losing your temper does not take away from the amazing football genius you are. I believe that is what the golden ball is about.
Reply:agree
Reply:agree..yah mybe he could bcuz of his stupid act!!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:I don’t know…

It’s going to be aloooong way to go for FIFA,

If Zidane lose the golden ball,

There is a possibility the France fan or maybe the other national team would question the whole World Cup, etc. etc.
Reply:strongly disagree.. he's a great player.. if its not bcoz of the other player who insulted him, ppl wouldnt be talking about him losing the golden ball.. c'mon, afterall, he was awarded for his performance that he had shown for yrs.. :-)
Reply:i think he deserves to keep it. The Golden Ball takes into account the entire tournament as a whole, a tournament in which zidane proved to the world that he deserved to be called one of the greatest. compare all those games to a single incident. red cards happen all the time. The ones with provocation involved should also stick one in the offenders face.

basically, the Golden Ball is his due praise, the redcard was FIFA's disciplinary action against the behavior "contrary to the ethic of the sport" . Isn't that what the redcard exactly does, anyway?

By keeping the Golden Ball, it's telling Zidane: You are great. It doesn't go close to saying "Nice headbutt, do it again sometime" or that redcard wouldn't have made it out of the referree's pocket.

p.s.stradun7 and bks_titans99 nailed it.
