yes, of course he did...he played brillaintly..lifted his game throughout the world cup and thats what a great player is...he's my god...i started playing football coz i saw 'this bald guy heading in two' for his team(read:1998 final..i was a kid)..later i found out he wasnt even known for his headers or something...he's brilliantly inspiring...and that bloody matterazzi deserved that head butt and more...would've been awesome if he won it for them again but bringing france,who drew with switzerland in their first match and played rather horrible,i concede...he compeltely deserved it...france were nothing without him...cannavaro was good,but even in italy i think pirlo was more useful..so that puts him out of the question..


zidane's already attained immortality, one silly incident that wasnt even his fault wont hurt him...he had nothing really to prove...

It would be a crime for FIFA to take that award away from him.
Reply:Golden Ball is for the best player through out the whole WC tournament. Its not only about the final match. ( cos that will be Man of the Match ) I think he deserved it as much as Materazzi deserved being headbutt ( hmm.. in fact I think he deserved more then a headbutt ).





Hell with Fifa if they take it away from him.


I will boycott WC if that happens !!!

Reply:In truth, your hero should have declined acceptance of the award because what he did was not for the good of the game. Having said this he now faces the possibility of FIFA taking back the award which is even more shameful. But who knows what happens behind the scenes at FIFA... perhaps presidential intervention may just convince FIFA to let your hero keep the award. Win-win situation for FIFA, France and your hero...the hell with sportsmanship.

Anyone else notice how that Italian has said he did insult Zidane but he denies what the media has claimed he said (including a lip reader) but he has not said what he said to Zidane.

Reply:Up until half time I'm gonna say he did, the thing is the vote is at halftime not the end of the game so nobody would have known that Zidane was gonna do something like the headbutt! I was rooting for Italy but Zidane did play a tremendous last World Cup, leading his team to the finals, but Cannavaro also deserved to win the golden ball, the vote were extremely close, 2,012 for Zidane and 1,977 for Cannavaro!

Reply:i think the head butting was not a true sport manship but no one knows what had made him to do so. he indeed played really well and desrved the award.he has has really served football very much.he deserves the award cause he woudnt have done that(head butt) without any reason.
Reply:No. He was awarded the G B because they were his final games. He did play great, but there plenty of other player who played better and helped their teams. Cannavaro, Klosse, Buffon, Ricardo just to name a few. His excuse for the infamous head-butt was that materrazzi said something degrading about his mother and sister.... sure after he told him with a " holier than thou" up and down look that if he wanted his jersey so badly, he would give it to him after the game, because Materrazzi had grabbed his shirt. Zidane is a pompous man, who had an amazing talent, and that lost alot of love from fans around the world after his negligent and violent act. He's gonna have to live with the fact that he will always be remembered by what he did that day and not by his accomplishments.
