Don't you think It was better for FIFA to elect Cannavaro as the winner of Golden ball?

I think defenders are not being paid attention. As I think everyone believe that Paolo Maldini deserved this award too, but he was never given that, and also for Cannavaro in this World Cup!! Besides the thing Zidane did is another reason.

Comment.......?

Don't you think It was better for FIFA to elect Cannavaro as the winner of Golden ball?
Well the journalists voted for that:

2012 points Zidane

1977 points Cannavaro

715 points Pirlo

Best Goal-keeper Buffon

The thing that Zidane did,was a bad example for all those children that admire him,I don't know how come journalists "forgot" the "little" thing?!My guess is he get the award because it was his last World Cup.

It was lack of respect for his team what he did.

Cannavaro was absolutely fantastic, but he can get the Cup in 2010,Go CannaWALL!!!
Reply:yup... it was.... not that.... that..... pig..... i ment zidane....
Reply:you are right
Reply:maybe yes but no to uncle zidane
Reply:You people need to get your facts right. First of all, it's MATERAZZI, not Meganazi. And second of all, Zidane is on the FRENCH team, not German.

And actually, the votes were taken before his red card offence. But I think they should have a revote without Zidane in the nominations after what he did. I think that anyone who has received a red card in the tournament should not be given the award.

Cannavaro or Buffon definitely deserve it more than him.
Reply:Oh yes, Cannavaro played well. If he was given the Golden Ball people'll remember him for some more days. Now, people, in general. will forget him day after tomorrow. Zinedine no longer needs this sort of recognition - he's aleardy been a legend! FIFA is indeed felt honoured to honour him.
Reply:I agree with you totaly ...
Reply:I think I would have chosen Buffon, he saved Italy SEVERAL times and his save on the Zizou header truly was a shot that most goalkeepers would have missed...

I agree that Cannavaro was an equally deserving winner..

Zizou's idiocy just shows FIFA's value system...they are washing their hands of his savage and barbaric act...
Reply:I think Cannavaro SHOULD have won it!! He was the best defender in the tournament... Buffon also deserves it, he's a BIG part of the Italian team and him saving Zidane's header was UNBELIEVABLE!!!!
Reply:good point. maybe zidane amassed many votes before his bullying action. I think if he wasnt the captain, ok give him the Golden ball. But being the captain and doing what he did is so irresponsible. I feel bad for the image of the whole German team. In that way it's poetic justice that Italy won.
Reply:Cannavaro heard what Meganazi said and i think if Zidane did not get the golden boot then there would be a FATWA for meganazi's head. I hope for his sake he did not insult Islam as the former Italian prime minister has already got himself into trouble in the past. Rome may not be the best destination to visit this summer it seems. hmmmm, why cant Italians keep fascism out of the beautiful game???

Zidane will be remembered along with the greats...Cannavaro will remain a nobody outside italy except the small ghettos italians live in USA, Canada etc.
Reply:First, FIFA do not elect the winner - it is a poll of journalists.

I do not know whether the poll is taken before the final - that would seem odd, as it is the most important game, but it may be so.

Cannavaro played very well, but Zidane undoubtedly gave the journalists more to write about with his extraordinary game against Brazil, among others, so perhaps that's why they thought he was the best player?

As to your point that defenders are paid less attention, that may be true, but creators tend to get more attention than stoppers, and that's just the way it is. Scoring goals is difficult and it's what all footballers love to do - find footage of Cannavaro scoring and you will see what I mean.

Yes maybe it's unfair, but a) it ain't going to change and b) it wasn't FIFA who elected him.
