I throw ,retrieve for about 15mins,,,and i take him back but he
wants more tho!i think hes a pup and has no clue..
maybe not??
i dont want a dead retriever,,lol
Take my 1yr old golden,throw the ball,he retrieves.When should i stop throwing?Time ?30m or 1hr?
LOL I keep throwing the ball until my arm hurts! I have 3 golden's here who all love to play fectch. i only let it go one until I know they all have had enough. You have to say when it's time to stop because they will keep going and it's not good for them at all.
When I see my Golden's start to have labored breath then I know it's time to stop. Usually about 1/2 hour to 45 minutes is more than enough.
We do this a few times a day but I dont like to push it with them.
Reply:Usually the pups will know when they're tired. They'll either start walking to the ball or will go and retrieve the ball and lay down. Give it a bit more time and see if he reacts. Don't worry, you won't have a dead golden retriever, he'll be fine, just try a half hour for now but I'm sure he'll start to tire and thats a good sign to come in.
Reply:i have 3 ball obsessed dogs and they will fetch for hours if i let them. i bring them to a big hill in a field near my house and throw the ball down the hill. they have great fun chasing each other up and down the hill and they tire out after about 20 mins and then they swim in the river and go home and chase each other round the garden for another hour or so. they 5,6 and 10 years old
Reply:My lot would chase a ball until they dropped if I let them but I try and limit our 'fetch' sessions to about 15 minutes each time. By that time I can see that they are ready to stop although if I continued throwing they would continue chasing and fetching. Like you I don't want to overdo it. You have to hide the ball out of sight because they never know when to give up. I just call 'Game over' and walk indoors and hide the ball until the next time.
I wish I had as much energy as my dogs. LOL
Reply:Sounds like a fetchaholic LOL an hour is good no more and give him some water every 15 minuets or so : )
