Yes and not just the golden one
Should Zidane have the Golden Ball award taken from him ?
Of course he should, if i headbutted anyone while i was working (which is what he was doing) then i'd be sacked, I certainly wouldn't get an award for it! (well, unless it was our salesman who everyone wants to headbutt...) its an awful way for him to end his career but regardless of the circumstances, he should never have acted like that.
Reply:NO, he did his best. Well actually I never liked him, but he was a good football player...
Reply:no cos i read in the papers today that he was insulted by the player that he head butted so i say that he deserved it, though he could of dealt with the situation in another manner, but a definate no!
Reply:He should keep the Golden Ball irrespective of the incident. The one has nothing to do with the other.
But history will not only remember ZZ as an awesome player, but also a butthead.
Whereas, Pele will just be remembered as the greatest fottballer of all time. (with no negative emphasis)
Reply:why? it was pretty obvious by his reaction that it was an insult of the worst kind, you obviously haven,t seen a lot of the cheating Italians over the years they are up to every dirty trick in the book, spitting, insults the lot. The elbow from their mid fielder in the group stages was par for the course with the Italians, feeble f.i.f.a. should of banned him from the rest of the competition, it would of sent the message loud and clear, cheats, beware!
Reply:YES!!! What he did was idiotic and barbaric and does not represent what the Golden Ball stands for!!!!
Reply:No no no and no.
Reply:Yes.
1) He is not new to this kind of beaviour.
2)No insult justifies what he did. He was supposed to be a professional.
Reply:shouldnt the question be "why was the golden ball decision made prior to the last game?"
I firmly believe the golden ball should be aken away. If the decision was made AFTER the last match, there is no-way he would have got the trophey. And for all you bleeding heart liberals who say "it was only 1 mistake" then, sorry you're wrong. It wasn't 1 mistake - it was 1 mistake broadcast to millions, and setting a very bad example for millions. Players say **** to wind each other up all the time (eg ronaldo - rooney) any player who is susseptable to this, shoudlnt be playing. FFS he is a world class player, he should be able to rise above it.
Reply:Considering they made the decision to give it to him AFTER the headbutting incident happened, absolutely not.
Reply:Absolutely, and he will!
That type of behavior, in front of the entire world with children watching who are looking to emulate someone as a role model, is inexcusable and should not be rewarded.
The guy's a jerk and needs to be treated as such.
Not to mention the fact that the red card he received and the subsequent penalty of having to leave the game before it was over may have cost France the World Cup.
The presentation of the Golden Ball to Zidane was pre-ordained before the game even started because he was retiring. So, even more the reason to remove it from him...he really did not win it for being a "most valuable player" and needs to have it taken from him now for being the "least valuable loser".
Reply:Absolutely yes, this is why the young generation coming up is so violent, because we reward acts of violence and write books and make movies about it.
Reply:well no just cause he did 1 fing rong it dusnt mean he's not a good playa!! im not a fan of his but i say he's a good playa and desrved da golden ball!!
Reply:Fifa is investigating. If Materazzi said something racist to him, he should keep it -- no excuses for racism. Zidane was wrong headbutting him during the game, but his reaction can be forgiven. And Materazzi should be suspended by Fifa. If all he said was his sister is a wh*** or some other insult like that, Zidane's reaction was exaggerated and shows very bad sportsmanship, so if Fifa takes the award from him, it would be understandable.
Reply:now you're just being silly. The FIFA commission will discipline him, so he's probably suspended from a couple Euro 2008 qualifier matches.
Reply:not on your nelly.
Reply:Zidane actually doesn't require such sort of award. It's like awarding Victor Hugo the Nobel Prize. To the billions he remains in the same place whether it is given to him or taken away. Actually Cannavera, the second best, should have been given it. He would then be remembered in future for some more time.
Reply:Non, no, nyet, iie, dame, heck no way, hindi!!!!
Reply:any player that brings the game into disrepute, more so on his last appearance, should not be rewarded in this manner, its a total sham
Reply:ABSOLUTLY NO, NO, NO!!!!
Reply:No
Reply:Zizou earned the golden ball more than any other player on the field. A true leader France would have never have gotten far in the tournament without him
Reply:hell no...
zidane is the greatest player the world has seen for the last decade and he being such as genius at the job deserves it...
and by the way, the award is decided by the media personnels and so FIFA and Mr. Sepp Blatter dont butt your head into it...
u dont take away awards from someone who has given the world football a new dimension...
Reply:does it really matter? yawn.
Reply:NO!!!
He deserves, he made one mistake, we all make mistakes. Dont u?
Just look at his wonderful career, he even deserves to lift that trophy
Reply:why he earnt it before the head butting incident
Reply:No.
Reply:No he should not have it taken away. the guy made a mistake but that surely does not take away anything from his magnificent career! Besides, the voting was done before he correctly butted Matteerzi
Reply:NOOOOO!
He just made mistake, doesn't make his football career any less perfect, people make mistakes, you have to forgive them, and FIFA has done so many.. the can't complain about something so small .
He should have waited until after the match and then killed him in the changing rooms lol .. just kidding, but he was right to get that angry
The great thing about what he did is: front page news on every news paper was ZIDANE, not Italy winning lmao GO ZIZOU!! This final will be remembered as the one Zidane made a big mistake, not the one Italy took lol
