How much do I feed my golden retriever?

I feed my dog pedigree dry food and it says on it that a dog which weighs 25 kg should be fed 350g





my golden retriever is slightly overweight and i wish to put him on a diet. he gets a 30 mins plus walk every day and sometimes he gets walked twice and i play with him with a ball in the back garden sometimes.

Cut down the dry food and replace it with green beans fresh or canned. This will make your dog full, but will lose weight. Goldens need a lot of exercise so if not getting it you need to cut back on the food. My friends who have a Golden, he gets 3 one hours walks runs on the beach daily. He only gets 2 cups of food per day and looks great. Your walks are good too, but if you can do more maybe every other day that would help too. All the best;~}
Reply:When I was 14 my mom brought home a Golden retriever, beautiful dog, we named her Queenie. I'm not sure if this is the same with all other retrievers, but Queenie was a very picky eater and wanted dry food, but it never seemed to fill her and she always wanted more to eat. it seemed she was only content when I gave her about 250 to 300 grams. She was very active and ate about three times a day. Like i mentioned earlier, I'm not a Vet, I'm just going off my experience.
Reply:Golden needs alot of exercises usually more then 1 hr a day. I give me golden 3 cups everyday with 2 milkbone as snacks. Takes him out in the backyard running isn't bad either.

Reply:By my calculations your dog weighs about 55 lbs. Is this correct? If so I say your Golden is not over weight. Male Goldens average weight is 65-75 lbs or 29-34 kg, Female 60- 70 lbs and 27-32 kg. I even think that this is a bit lower then what I have experienced over the years and have been told by Golden owners/breeders.





I have a female golden who weighs about 74 lbs....vet thinks this is a good weight for her. She gets fed 2x's a day about 2 cups of dry kibble a day. At night we add some canned green beans into her food, about 1/4 cup. She is on Innova adult large breed dry kibble. She gets Eukanuba low cal rewards for treats.





How old is your Golden? Mine is almost 19 months old.

Reply:I would give him a cup less then what you usually feed him. In grams, I really am not sure
